Tagore’s words5
Here is Tagore’s English version of the lyrics to this song:

The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.

It is the same life that shoots in joy through the dust of the earth in numberless blades of grass and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.

It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth and of death, in ebb and in flow.

I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life. And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment.

Question for Matt !!!5
Hey Matt,
great work and kudos for your wonderful effort !!!
I’ve a burning curiosity…who influenced you to Tagore’s works for adopting “Praan”? I am a Bengali and Tagore is our institution. We live by him and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw you adopt him. You don’t even know Bengali…and even though you might have been told the meaning of this song by someone, is it the tune which got you hooked?
So congrats for your dances and double congrats for adopting a song sung in my mother tongue !!!
Take care,
Deb.

Excellent Song5
The song is in bangla. Lyrics adapted from the poem “Stream of Life” Gitanjali by Rabindranath Tagore. He also has written the national anthem of india.

Even if you dont understand the language, don’t worry ,tune and jingle is so good it will always keeping coming back to your mind.

Water on the Brain3
FOOL’S GOLD is a cute, light, sunny romp by the incredibly blonde team of Matthew McConaughey (Finn) and Kate Hudson (Tess) through the oh-so blue Caribbean in search of treasure lost off the coast of the Spanish Main in the 1700s.

There’s something here for everyone, which means that Finn is tanned and muscular and behaves like a refugee from Parrothead Island (for the girls) and Tess is elegant and lithe and bright in a bikini (for the boys). They both spend most of this film wet and half-naked, never a bad thing. A good supporting role is played by Donald Sutherland, who plays the multibillionaire grubstaking the adventure.

Of course, Finn and Tess drive each other crazy as newly-divorced but continuing business partners. The barbed affection between them provides most of the energy of FOOL’S GOLD. There are bad guys also searching for the treasure, so there’s some action mixed in with the adventure.

This movie is pure fluff, but it’s fun fluff because it’s so obviously evident that everyone had a great time on set making this film. It’s a good way to spend 100 minutes on your couch eating corn chips and drinking soda.

One of Worst Movies of the Year 1
This is one of the worst movies I have seen in recent years. I really like both stars, but they should be embarrassed to be part of such a poorly written & executed movie. The fake scenery of “Florida”…who knew the keys had mountainous terrain….looks like the Virgin Islands to me! C’mon that’s just a basic that the setting should at least be realistic. The story line is weak and the humor is so predictable. This movie overall is just a waste of time and energy.

Excellent Romantic Adventure5
I think a lot of people went into this movie expecting another lightweight comedy from this duo, but got a lot more. I went to see it with a female friend who loved “How to Lose a Guy”, but isn’t really into action movies. Well I loved it, and she not so much. Besides the entertaining storyline, the breathtaking scenery really steals the show. It’s like going on a tropical vacation for 90 minutes, except you can drink the water. I don’t think you can really qualify this as a chick flick, but it’s earned a spot on my blu-ray shelf, and for a guy that’s a lot.

The Eagles – Their Greatest Hits

Customer Reviews

Number of all time for a good reason5
My first car had a stereo radio and tape deck and one of the first songs to get my attention on it was “Lyin’ Eyes” because of the beautiful five-part harmonies on the song. It inspired me to buy the album and later to buy “Hotel California” and others, including “Hell Freezes Over” and “Long Road To Eden.” Some of these I own in both CD and LP.

These guys have the bestselling album of all time for good reason – it’s great music flawlessly performed. And even with the changes in personnel over the years (including Don Felder’s “firing”), they remain a must-hear act and if anything, they are keep getting better.

A Fairly True “Greatest”4
I wasn’t the biggest Eagles fan, for sure, and I’m normally not fond of “Greatest Hits” compilation albums.

However, this album gets a strong 4 stars from this reviewer, primarily because the music IS really good. Of course, if you hate the Eagles, you can’t stand a country music influence, or if you’re just biased by the fact that you’ve simply heard these songs too many times over the past 30-some years, then you will surely give this album a poor rating.

People continue to buy this compilation because it truly represents the best of this band’s first four releases, with one possible exception. Go ahead and listen to The Eagles (1972), Desperado (1973), On the Border (1974), and One of These Nights (1975); IF you like The Eagles’ music, I predict with almost-absolute certainty that the listening enjoyment from playing this one CD will FAR EXCEED what you will get out of any of those single albums, each of which contains some very non-memorable tracks.

I happen to have a fondness for their sophomore release “Desperado,” with its old-west, outlaw theme. However, it’s NOT like I can point to any particular songs on that album and claim that they were unjustly excluded from the Greatest Hits (the closest candidates might be “Outlaw Man” and “Bitter Creek”).

So what’s the exception I alluded to above? In my opinion, the title track from “On the Border” was the ONE best “pre-Hotel” Eagles song that was for some reason not included on this album. It could have easily replaced what I feel was the SAPPIEST song on the Greatest Hits, that being “Best of My Love,” which even this reviewer has a hard time listening to today.

One more interesting note (forgive me if this has been brought up in one of the many reviews which preceded mine): back in the early 70’s FM radio was just being born, and these Eagles songs predominantly became “hits” AFTER (and because of) the release of this Greatest Hits album! In other words, these songs were NOT popular AM radio hits when this album came out. This is very much unlike MOST greatest/best-of releases, which I tend to avoid because they are for the most part comprised of a bands most POPULAR tunes (instead of their truly BEST songs).

Thus, these songs were not chosen for this album because of their popularity, which sets THIS Greatest Hits compilation apart from most others. These songs WERE the best Eagles songs from that era, and that is why this album continues to sell so well. If you like (liked) The Eagles, this is the only pre-Hotel album you really need to own.

Eagles- Their Greatest Hits5
ESSENTIAL ALBUM!!! This album, along with Michael Jackson’s Thriller, flip-flop as the number one selling album of all-time. There are ten timeless classics here from the pre-Joe Walsh era of the Eagles. All but one of these songs charted & the one that didn’t should have. There are a few omissions but they’re minor ones.

The album opens with “Take It Easy” which peaked at #12, Jackson Browne was a co-writer on this song. Next is “Witchy Woman” with it’s American Indian sounding intro, it peaked at #9. “Lyin’ Eyes” was one of the first songs from a pop artist that crossed over into the country charts. It went to #3 on Adult Contemporary, #8 Country & #2 Pop Singles. “Already Gone”, one of their best rock songs went to #32. “Desperado” didn’t chart but I consider it to be in my 50 greatest songs ever. “One of These Nights” was a #1 hit. “Tequila Sunrise” only made it to #64 but I consider it to be one of their best songs. “Take It to the Limit” was written & sung by bassist Randy Meisner, it went to #4 Adult Contemporary & #4 Pop Singles. “Peaceful Easy Feeling” went to #22. The final song on the album, “The Best of My Love” has a world-weary sounding vocal by Don Henley, another great song by the Eagles; it went to #1Pop singles & #1 Adult Contemporary.

This is an outstanding compilation, good reasons for it being one of the two best selling albums of all-time.

Amazon.com
Political movies about backroom negotiations need not be dry or heavy-handed, as Charlie Wilson’s War delightfully proves. Based on the true story of playboy congressman Wilson’s efforts to fund Afghanistan’s defense against the Soviet invasion of the 1980s, the film is borne along on breezy attitude and a peppery script by West Wing scribe Aaron Sorkin. Wilson, played by Tom Hanks (who also produced), is the perfect hero for this kind of tale, because there’s nothing perfect or heroic about him: He’s a highball-swilling, fanny-pinching gadabout who becomes radicalized on the issue of helping the Afghans against their mighty aggressor. He has help in the form of a right-wing Texas anti-Communist (Julia Roberts) with a genius for raising money, and a sardonic CIA operative (Philip Seymour Hoffman, stealing the show) who lacks all the social skills Wilson has in abundance. Sorkin’s syncopated speech is just the ticket for director Mike Nichols, who understands exactly how to keep this kind of political comedy popping (the complicated story comes in at a hair over 90 minutes, amazingly). Some scoundrels are on the right side of the angels, and the movie’s Charlie Wilson is one of them. –Robert Horton

Charlie Wilson’s War4
I really enjoyed this movie; Tom Hanks and Julia did a super job as usual. A peek at how politics really work.

The Cold War, now available in Primary colours…3
So what do you know – it’s possible to make a cheerful movie about the war…
Actually, the reason this movie feels so light and cheerful is that it is really about Charlie Wilson the man rather than the war. The movie tells the (based on true) story of the Texas Congressman who played a pivotal role in getting substantial funding to the Mujahedin in Afghanistan, eventually leading to the forced withdrawal of the Russians, thereby paving the way for the downfall of the Soviet Empire – as told by this movie at least. The interesting part is that Charlie Wilson was a womanizing party animal who was the last person many would have thought would tackle this issue.
The cast fit the bill perfectly – Tom Hanks surprises as the drinking Congressman, sharing a hot tub with strippers doing coke.. but retains the naivete that seems to have allowed him to say `why not’ when faced with the question of increasing funds to Afghan freedom fighters. The woman asking the questions is a rich, headstrong Texan woman played by Julia Roberts, and the man in the CIA actually getting the job done and providing the technical explanations, is played by Philip Seymour Hoffman.
It’s shot well, in bright colours and plenty of lighting so we never have a dark moment, and acting is perfectly fine throughout. There is even just a touch of acknowledgement at the end that things were not so straightforward, and a warning that with the Russians gone, and without funding rebuilding infrastructure and schools, the `crazies’ would inevitably take the leading role. As of course they did.
On the downside, this is really a very superficial look at the issues, and a rather one-sided look at events in history. On the plus side, it’s a fun and entertaining introduction to the man and the history, that at 1hr 38 min never outlasts its welcome.

Charlie’s on crack cocaine….4
No such thing as a 5 million dollar war, or even a billion dollar war! According to today’s newspaper, 4 dollar gas is here to stay, and the economy is forever spirialing upwards, and out of the Feds, control. Oh yeah, the movie, well I fell asleep towards the ending, I don’t know if it was the film, or my new Lazyboy recliner, but it’s been happening alot lately.

this has to be the worst album lil wayne has made. the old (lights out) block is hot, the carter lil wayne use to kill. ever since he swiched his style up he fell off hard! and a lot of these songs i heard months and months ago i thought they were on some underground mix tape or something. it seems like he lost his effort and drive to make good music. overall this album gets one star for the lack of effort and good music.

Can’t Get Enough “Weeds”5
Wonderfully funny show with some dark comedy and a plot line that twists and turns. Perfectly written and acted. Can’t wait for the third season to be released. I can’t wait to see what happened after the perfectly devised cliffhanger to season two.

Ha ha ha worth its weight in weed5
I bought season 1 on a whim. watched it all in 1 day and the next day bought season 2 and watched it all! It is so funny and just off the wall this is what you wish suburbia was really like! I cant wait till the next season comes out on DVD. It is really my new favorite show. I wish i had Showtime just for this!

Welcome to the land of Ambien, Prozac, etc.5
Be warned: this series is a lot of fun. I downloaded all the episodes in just a few days. Laughed and laughed. No, I was not high.

You could substitute the pot in this series with purebred dogs, racing cars, esoteric coffee, whatever. Weed is not central to the storytelling. It’s all about the endearing collection of screw-ups!

OK, that’s preposterous. It’s also about the pot. The high tech grower’s conference with the flowery interchangeable buzz marketing terms was hilarious. Riffing here: “It’s a teutonic buzz, like a horde of barbarians flooding your mind to a techno soundtrack. Well-organized, disciplined muchies, with a clean finish.” (If I were clever that would also refer to this series, but it doesn’t – was just silliness.)

** Great soundtrack! **

Anyone in California has seen a few of the planned purgatories that Agrestic so perfectly portrays. You buy into the dream thinking that comfort equals happiness, and the emptiness starts to gnaw at you. Enter our heroine.

You know, I never understood Kevin Nealon while he was on Saturday Night live, but here, he’s outrageously entertaining playing the character of shallow Councilman Doug. I shouldn’t single him out. Elizabeth Perkins is wonderful. Uncle Andy’s lessons about life (all learned the hard way, apparently). Actually, practically everyone is great, which is weird.

Initially when I watched Mary-Louise Parker, I wondered who she kept reminding me of… and then it hit me: she was precisely mimicking Bradley Whitford, with whom she co-starred in West Wing, according to IMDB. Or is Bradley copying her? Will have to see them pre-2000. It’s just like Geena Davis and Jeff Goldblum. (Update: in Season 3, she loses the Bradley speak. Good move, I think.)

If you are considering watching this, download an episode. Even if the drug premise offends you, the show is just too good to miss. Another of the great new cable series with wonderful characters & writing.
